Whoopi Goldberg Defends Bill Cosby
Despite news of an admission by famed comedian Bill Cosby to a court of purchasing sedatives to give to women he wanted to have sex with in 2005, Whoopi Goldberg still believes the “Cosby Show” actor is innocent.
Goldberg’s remarks came during Tuesday’s episode of The View. The talk show host said she was reserving her judgement until Cosby is proven guilty. The issue with that is that there are no actual lawsuits against Cosby at the moment, thanks the the expired status of the statute of limitations for most of the women who have accused him of assault.
Co-host Raven-Symoné also opted to wait for Cosby’s conviction before making any solid statements about the recently developments. As a former star of The Cosby Show, she noted her bias before asking what the deposition documents actually proved.
Goldberg backed up her claims by saying the ’80s was a weird time. She also noted that she personally needs more information before she passes any judgments onto Cosby.
On the contrary, singer Jill Scott took back her support of the icon after the deposition came to light.
“About Bill Cosby. Sadly his own testimony offers PROOF of terrible deeds, which is ALL I have ever required to believe the accusations,” the star tweeted after the news. “I stood by a man I respected and loved. I was wrong. It HURTS!!! When you get it ALL right, holla.”
