Washington Student Arrested for Racist Threats

Police in Washington have arrested a college student suspected of posting a racist threat toward another classmate on the anonymous social media app Yik Yak.

The arrest comes amid increased tensions on college campuses across the country over allegations of racism on campus, particularly violent threats against African American students.

19-year-old Tysen Campbell of Western Washington University, was arrested by campus police on suspicion of felony malicious harassment over the threat posted last week on Monday.

According to university spokesman Paul Cocke, Campbell wrote “let’s lynch her,” in reference to another student, but said he could not provide further information.

Authorities were investigating other online messages targeting the university community.
