Vigil Set for Slain Chicago Activist
The family of Leonore Draper is working to make sure the Chicago activist did not die in vain.
A candlelight vigil has been set to honor the life of Draper, who was fatally shot following an anti-violence fundraiser she helped organize last Friday.
The vigil is scheduled for this Friday, May 2 at 10 p.m. in front of Draper’s house at 11601 S. Laflin.
“She was very charismatic, with a positive outlook. Lee was doing her part to help make Chicago streets safe,” her father-in-law, Ronald Draper, said in a press release. “We call on our Mayor and other state and local officials to redouble efforts at curtailing easy access to firearms sold by unchecked gun brokers.”
If you’re not available to attend the vigil, Draper’s family invites you to participate via social media with images of orange candles and the hashtag #BrightLight.
