Video: Tulsa Officer Fatally Shoots Eric Harris
Outrage is spreading once again as graphic video footage was released of a Tulsa Police chase which led to another unarmed Black man’s death.
Eric Harris, reportedly in his 40s, was fatally shot on April 2 by Robert Bates, a 73-year-old Reserve Deputy during an attempted arrest.
NBC news affiliate KJRH reports that the officer intended to reach for his taser and can be heard yelling, “Taser, taser.” Unfortunately, what resulted was him pulling his personal .38 caliber gun and shooting Harris while restricted him on the ground.
NBC released this video during their coverage:
However, a more telling video has surfaced showing Eric Harris yelling “He shot me, he shot me man. I’m losing my breath.” To which the officer replies, “F— your breath.”
It is this comment and lack of care for one’s life that has caused a media outrage and further disregard for human life. The footage is below:
Following the unfortunate chase and shooting, Harris was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The tragic encounter came during a sting operation where Harris was allegedly trying to sell a 9mm semiautomatic pistol and ammunition to undercover cops.
Tulsa’s Sherriff’s office is standing behind Bates, stating “he did not commit a crime.”
The shooting is currently under investigation.
Social media is making sure the conversation heard on the video is brought to light:
