SpinMedia, formerly known as Buzz Media, has bought VIBE magazine along with its related online sites VIBE.com and VIBEvixen.com, according to the New York Times. Steve Hansen, SpinMedia’s chief executive, also told the paper that they would most likely shut down the print publication of the magazine and focus instead on the Web.

“We are still trying to find a print model that makes economic sense in the digital age,” he said.

When SpinMedia was still Buzz Media last summer, it bought Spin magazine and shut down its print publication. According to the New York Times, Spin‘s online traffic has doubled since then.

VIBE folded previously in 2009 but it was quickly brought back to life by private equity investors and its current Editor-In-Chief Jermaine Hall. Vibe was originally founded in 1992 as a R&B and hip-hop music and culture centric magazine by Quincy Jones.
