In response to the mysterious death of a 28-year-old Black woman in police custody, people are taking to Twitter to express their lack of trust in law enforcement officials.
#IfIDieinPoliceCustody follows an online campaign that is demanding answers to how Sandra Bland died. Bland passed away on Monday in a jail cell in Waller County, Texas.
County officials say the death was a suicide by hanging. But her family and friends do not believe them.
Here’s what some are saying via #IfIDieinPoliceCustody.
#IfIDieInPoliceCustody question everything. Don’t believe a word they say. Demand the truth by any means necessary.

#IfIDieInPoliceCustody ask every question, and know that I did not end my own life. And protest in the spirit of the founding fathers.

A country where a hashtag like #IfIDieInPoliceCustody can trend has lost any claim to being a democracy.

Wow.
What a sad but very real example of how far we have to go as a country when it comes to bridging the gap of systematic injustice and equality for all.
