Texas Woman Dies in Police Custody
A 22-year-old Black woman died in police custody in Texas last week.
May 10 to be exact, but that’s pretty much all that we know about Symone Nicole Marshall’s death.
Marshall, a mother of one, was in a brutal car accident on April 26, New York Daily News reports. Her family says Marshall’s car flipped over several times before landing in a ditch.
Instead of being taken to the hospital for evaluation, the paper reports that Marshall was taken to Walker County Jail in Huntsville, Texas.
From jail, Marshall spoke with her sister, Honey Marshall, and explained to her that someone ran her off the road.
“My sister Symone moved to Texas for a fresh start in life a few months ago,” Marshall told the Daily News. She was doing good down there, had a job and was about to buy a house. She’s a beautiful person, never been in trouble before and didn’t deserve this.”
Honey Marshall said her sister complained about her head hurting and that she kept blacking out.
Police and jail officials have not released information about the incident to the Daily News and Marshall’s family hasn’t been able to get details from officials.
