Teen in Rape Case Back On Football Team
One of the Steubenville, Ohio, teens convicted for raping a 16-year-old girl is back to playing football with his high school team.
Ma’lik Richmond, one of the two football players sentenced to at least a year in juvenile prison in the case that made national headlines, has returned to the team, The Root reports.
Richmond served nine months in juvenile detention before being released in January.
“There’s no law against it that states he can’t play,” Jefferson County Chief Probation Officer Fred Abdalla Jr. told a local station.
Many of the Steubenville citizens have expressed their disapproval and discomfort with the situation, but the school’s head coach supports the decision. “I feel like he’s earned a second chance.”
