Former Ga. Student Kills College Freshman
A Georgia-based college student was fatally stabbed on campus as he attempted to help a group of women who were being harassed by a former student, AJC reports.
24-year-old Joseph Anthony Scott has been identified as the suspect in the Tuesday attack.
The slain student, Donnell M. Phelps, intervened as three women were leaving the campus cafeteria.
“[Scott] was being offensive … touching [the women] in a very inappropriate way,” Agent J.T. Ricketson said.
Phelps came to their aid and was stabbed by Scott multiple times before he fled the scene. On his way out of the main gate, Scott stabbed campus public safety officer Ernest Johnson, who was stationed at the post.
His injuries are not life-threatening and he is expected to survive.
Scott was taken into custody after being subdued by students and university personnel. He is currently being detained at the Peach County jail on charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession a knife while committing a felony.
