Stuart Scott Honored at His Alma Mater

Stuart Scott left an imprint on the field of sports journalism.

Entertaining, informative and creative, Scott delivered content in a way that cultivated sports lingo and made you feel a part of the broadcast.

For his body of work and excellence, the ESPN anchor will be inducted into UNC Chapel-Hill’s Journalism Hall of Fame on Oct. 23.

“[Stuart Scott] challenged the generation after him to be authentic and to find their voices as broadcasters,” said Susan King, dean of the UNC School of Media and Journalism said in a statement on the school’s website. “That may be his strongest professional legacy.”

Scott graduated from UNC in 1983 with a degree in radio, television and motion pictures. In July 2014, he revealed that he was battling cancer during his acceptance speech at the ESPYs and succumbed to his fight on January 4, 2015.

The legacy lives.
