Five Black Women Make U.S. Bobsled Team

Lolo Jones, Brakeman

Arguably the most infamous member of the women’s bobsledding team, Lori “LoLo” Jones is determined to win gold one way or another. She was a favorite at the 2012 London Olympics but placed fourth in the finals. It was teammate Elana Meyers who first introduced her to bobsledding. She has been on the cover of various magazines and has over 350,000 Twitter followers. But all this attention away from sports has led some to believe that she made the team because of her immense polarity rather than her skills as a top athlete. She hushed her critiques taking to Facebook to say, “”Bobsled was my fresh start. Bobsled humbled me. Bobsled made me stronger. Bobsled made me hungry. Bobsled made me rely on faith. Bobsled gave me hope. I pushed a bobsled but bobsled pushed me to never give up on my dreams.”
