Charles Barkley to Pay for Funeral of PA Victims
Charles Barkley, NBA Hall of Famer, will have to be added to the hall of fame for good deeds as well.
The former Philadelphia 76er has offered to pay for the funerals of three children killed in a North Philadelphia carjacking accident, CBS Sports reports.
According to city District Attorney Seth Williams, Barkley was moved after hearing of the tragic story and “wanted me to know that he wanted to pay for the funeral… and I put him in touch with the family so he can do that.”
Barkley confirmed his intentions to NBC10.com, but made no further comments, as he “he did not want to take attention away from the victims.”
Keiearra Williams, 15, Thomas Reed, 10, and Terrence Moore, 7, were killed last week when a carjacked SUV hit them on a sidewalk where their family was selling fruit for a church fundraiser. The children’s mother, 34-year-old Keisha Williams, remains in critical condition while their grandmother broke an ankle.
Seth Williams spoke of Barkley’s offer at a press conference announcing charges of second-degree murder, robbery, carjacking, sexual assault against the two suspects.
