Carmelo Anthony Returns to New York Knicks
When Carmelo Anthony suits up this season, he’ll be throwing back on his New York Knicks #7 jersey.
The 7-time NBA All-Star announced on his website Sunday that he’ll be staying in the Big Apple.
“This organization has supported me and in return, I want to stay and build here with this city and my team,” the small forward said in a statement on ThisIsMelo.com. “I owed it to myself and my family to explore all of the options available to me…I met with some quality organizations who have amazing talent and leadership. I thank them for their consideration.”
For the past few months, Anthony had been reviewing offers from the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets. In the end, he’s “a New York Knick at heart.”
Although the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Chris Broussard of ESPN reported that he would play for five years and receive $122 million.
The basketball star first joined the Knicks in 2011 after eight seasons with the Denver Nuggets. Since his arrival, the team has appeared in three playoffs, advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2013.
“I am looking forward to continuing my career in Orange & Blue…Madison Square Garden is the mecca of basketball and I am surrounded by the greatest fans in the world.,” he stated.
