Champion tennis player Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus at Wimbledon on Sunday, improving to 15-11 all-time and winning for the sixth time in her last seven matches against her older sister.
Sunday’s match was the first time the two had met at both Wimbledon and in a grand slam since 2009. Serena defeated Venus in the championship at the All-England club that year.
Serena remains on track to complete the third leg of a possible calendar Grand Slam. Her last defeat came 12 months ago, at one of the four majors, the All England Club.
“It’s never easy to play someone you love and care about,” Serena told BBC. “You just play for the competition and enjoy the moment.”
Venus’ success in the sport has been plagued by illness and injury in recent years. The last time the star claimed the Wimbledon title was in 2008.
Despite that reality, each sister has five Wimbledon singles crowns a piece.
Congrats to Serena on yet another championship win!
