Last week, Serena Williams announced she was pregnant, and the news was met with much excitement and enthusiasm.

Because last week, Williams was at 20 weeks as she said in her Snapchat caption, it meant she won December’s Australian Open while 10 weeks along.

Because Williams is a tennis and sports phenom, she’s going to have haters who continue to downplay her greatness.

This past weekend, Ilie Nastase, a Romanian tennis legend from the 1970s, just had to be petty. Reportedly, when speaking on Williams’ pregnancy, Nastase said, “Let’s see what color it has. Chocolate with milk?”

Williams’ fiance, Alexis Ohanian, who is the co-founder of Reddit, is White.

The International Tennis Federation took issue with Nastase’s comments and released a statement saying they are launching an investigation.

“The ITF does not tolerate discriminatory and offensive language and behaviour of any kind. We are aware of alleged comments made by Romanian captain Ilie Nastase and have begun an immediate investigation so that we have the full facts of the situation before taking further and appropriate action.”

Williams, who always remains graceful in any sort of adversity, posted an eloquent statement about Nastase’s comments on her Instagram.

She said, “It disappoints me to know we live in a society where people like Ilie Nastase can make such racist comments towards myself and unborn child, and sexist comments against my peers.”
