Sandra Bland Hearing Planned
The family of an Illinois woman who mysteriously died in a Texas jail cell earlier this year is asking supporters to pack a courtroom for a routine legal hearing.
Sandra Bland, 28, died after being taken into custody during a routine traffic stop in July. Her death has sparked national protests during a time when tensions between the police and citizens are high.
The hearing is a result of the Bland family’s lawsuit filed against the state trooper who pulled her over and Waller County for wrongful death.
Bland spent the weekend in jail, and reportedly committed suicide on her third day in custody. A grand jury is still decided on whether criminal charges will be filed.
A status hearing in the Bland family’s civil case is scheduled for Thursday at 2p.m. The Bland family held a rally earlier today outside the federal courthouse.
