Ruby Dee Public Memorial Set for September
Family, friends and fans will gather to celebrate the life of the legendary Ruby Dee.
The public ceremony, which will be held at Riverside Church in Manhattan on September 20, will include tributes, songs and reflections from loved-ones.
A private service was held June 11.
The Emmy award-winning actress, known for her roles in Do the Right Thing and American Gangster, was the first African-American woman to perform a leading role at the American Shakespeare Festival. She was also an activist, participating in marches and other demonstrations for civil rights.
She died at 91 of natural causes.
