Renisha McBride’s Death Ruled a Homicide
An autopsy report shows that 19-year-old Renisha McBride died of a gunshot wound to the head.
The teen, who’d stopped in a Dearborn Heights neighborhood and knocked on a homeowner’s door for help, was shot in the face, according to a report from the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office. Although McBride was said to have sustained injuries to her face following a car accident, the autopsy did not mention other facial or head injuries.
While police have identified the suspect in the shooting, he has not been charged. But the lawyer representing the homeowner, a 54-year-old White man, says the shooting was justified, according to The Detroit News.
Last week, community activists led by author dream hampton, held a rally at the Dearborn Heights Police Department demanding justice for McBride and transparency in the case. Family and friends believe the teenager was the victim of racial profiling.
