Raven-Symoné Won’t Hire People With ‘Ghetto’ Names
“I’m not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea.”
Wow. By golly, Raven-Symoné has done it again!
The View co-host made the ridiculous statements on-air following a conversation on a recent study that revealed that Americans make racist assumptions based on names.
“Just to bring it back, can we take back ‘racist’ and say ‘discriminatory,’ because I think that’s a better word. And I am very discriminatory against words like the ones that they were saying in the video. I’m not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea. It’s just not going to happen. I’m not going to hire you.”
Raven so doesn’t get it.
By supporting the very racist and discriminatory practice of not offering people of color opportunities because their names are difficult to pronounce or “different,” she is further reinforcing the notion that “white is right,” and that Blacks have to “get in where we fit in.”
While many of us may be able to change our names, we shouldn’t have to. We do not have a choice in what we are given at birth, and frankly, if everyone was “Becky,” the world would be pretty damn boring.
Raven, with statements like this, it’s pretty hard to know which team you are playing for.
Have several seats woman. SMH.
Check out the ridiculousness below.
So Raven-Symone says she won’t hire someone with an “Africanized” name but she sitting there with a red Mohawk? OK pic.twitter.com/DKioHj7rmG
