Raven-Symoné Defends Univision Host’s Comment

Why, Raven-Symoné?

During a hosting gig for ABC’s The View, the “Hot Topics” segment, things got heated when the panel took on Univision host, Rodner Figuera, who was fired for saying First Lady Michelle Obama looked like part of the Planet of the Apes cast.

While host Rosie Perez broke down Latino race politics and how some Latin cultures prefer to distance themselves from African Americans and that, yes, Figuera’s comments were racist, Ms.“Colorless” Raven chimed in half way defending the statements.

“But was he saying it racist-like? Because he said he voted for her later. And I don’t think he was saying it racist.”

Later looking into the camera and adding, “Not Michelle Obama. Michelle don’t fire me from this right now, but some people do look like animals.”

Watch the exchange below around the 8-minute mark:

Um, in what world do you live in where it’s not racist for someone to compare a Black person to a character from the “Planet of the Apes?”

Mind you, the comparison of Black people to apes is touchy and one that Black culture has endured since slavery, if not longer. The joke, if it were thought to be one in the host’s eyes, is not funny. Re-work your comedic topics and timing, sir.

In addition, when is it ever okay to deliver blatant disrespect to the First Lady of The United States?

C’mon Raven. Wake up!

Take our poll: Does Raven have a point or is she wrong for her comments?
