‘Raped At Spelman’ Twitter Account Emerges

A Twitter account believed to have been created by a Spelman College student who says she was raped has emerged.

The account, @RapedAtSpelman, features the tweets of an anonymous user.

“This page is anonymous because I want to be able to express myself without being attacked by AUC students for what happened to me,” the description reads.

According to tweets from the account, the young woman is a freshman at the institution.

As a result of the account, the #RapedatMorehouse and #RapedbyMorehouse hash tags have emerged, where users of the social media platform are standing in solidarity with victims of rape and sexual assault.

“Our hearts go out to this student and I want to personally offer her our full support and assistance,” Spelman College President Dr. Mary Schmidt Campbell said in a statement. “We are a family at Spelman and we will not tolerate any episode of sexual violence. No student should ever have to suffer and endure the experience she has recounted on social media. Spelman is conducting a full and thorough review of these events.”

JET sent a message to the creator of the account that has not been returned at this time.
