Rachel Jeantel Offered Full Scholarship
Rachel Jeantel, the star witness and last person to talk to Trayvon Martin before he died, won’t have to pay a dime for college.
On Tuesday morning, Tom Joyner offered Jeantel a full scholarship to any historically black college or university of her choice when she spoke on his show.
“Rachel, here’s my offer to you. If you want to graduate from high school, and go to an HBCU, even if it’s not in Florida but especially Florida, like Florida Memorial, Edward Waters or Bethune-Cookman or FAMU, if you want to do that, I want to help you do that,” Joyner said to her during the show.
“I will help you get tutors to get you out of high school, tutors to help you pass the SAT and I will give you a full-ride scholarship to any HBCU you’d like,” he continued.
Jeantel simply replied, “thank you.”
The scholarship money would come from the Tom Joyner Foundation, which has been awarding financial aid to students at HBCUs since 1998.
Joyner continued to express how touched he was by Jeantel later that day when he appeared on the Piers Morgan show, the segment Jeantel was on the night before.
He has already been in talks with Jeantel’s people to take the necessary steps. “She deserves a chance,” Joyner said.
