Principal Faces Sex Charges
Former middle school principal David Ellis Edwards of Fayetteville, North Carolina is accused of sexually assaulting at least three boys between the age of 11 and 14 while serving at two different schools.
Last Friday, the 49-year-old was arrested and charged with second-degree forcible sex offense, sexual acts with a student, taking indecent liberties with a minor and crimes against nature.
Officials say the incidents occurred between 2009 and 2011 and at least one occurred in Edward’s office while the student’s parents sat in a nearby waiting room. Authorities believe there are more victims.
Before Edwards resigned from his position at Douglas Byrd Middle School in August, he also worked as a principal at Ramsey Street Alternative School. The school system said they were unaware of the pending investigation when he left because he stated he was leaving for educational purposes.
Edwards has been released on $140,000 bond, and his first court appearance was Wednesday. He is due back in court October 31.
