President to Visit Oregon After College Shooting
President Barack Obama’s visit to an Oregon town struck by tragedy will focus on condolences, not gun laws, Associated Press reports.
He will mute his message about new action against gun violence as he visits an area where firearms are popular.
The president will speak privately with family members Friday at the start of a four-day West Coast trip.
Ten people died, including the gunman after he opened fire at Umpqua Community College last week.
The visit is taking place in staunchly conservative Douglas County, which is bristling with gun owners who use their weapons for hunting, target shooting and self-protection.
