Obama Announces New Manufacturing Hubs

President Barack Obama on Tuesday announced the creation of two Pentagon-led institutes to boost advanced high-tech manufacturing, with the eventual goal of creating jobs that have been lost to global competition. As part of his year-old promise to expand public-private manufacturing partnerships across the country, Obama announced a new center in his hometown of Chicago, concentrating on high-tech digital manufacturingand design. The other new hub will be located in Canton, Mich., outside Detroit, and specialize in light metalmanufacturing.

Boy, 9, Who Spent Day as Detroit Police Chief Dies

A 9-year-old boy with cancer who spent a day as Detroit’s honorary police chief last month has died. Jayvon Felton died Monday at Children’s Hospital in Detroit, Deputy Police Chief Rodney Johnson told The Detroit News. Funeral arrangements were pending of the fourth-grader, who was diagnosed with leukemia in April.

George Lucas, Wife Donate $25M to Chicago School

Filmmaker George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, are donating $25 million to a prestigious private school on Chicago’s South Side. The University of Chicago says Tuesday the grant from The George Lucas Family Foundation will pay for a new arts hall at the university’s Laboratory Schools.

Goodman Theatre Tackles Trayvon Martin Killing

The Goodman Theatre is the latest company to join a national push to stage a night of short plays about the killing of Trayvon Martin. The Goodman will present six 10-minute works by Marcus Gardley, Tala Manassah, Mona Mansour, Winter Miller, Dominique Morisseau, Dan O’Brien, Quetzel Flores and A. Rey Pamatmat as part of a March 3 production of “Facing Our Truth: Short Plays on Trayvon Martin, Race and Privilege.”

12 Years a Slave to be Taught in Schools

You’ve seen the movie and perhaps you’ve read the book. Now, 12 Years a Slave is coming to the classroom. According to Time, the movie and book of the same name will be included in the curriculum at American public high schools this fall. Individual school districts will decide whether to use the material.

Kevin Hart, Will Ferrell Movie Gets Release Date

Seems like funny man Kevin Hart has a thing for buddy films. Shortly after news dropped about a Ride Along sequel, it’s been revealed that Hart will star alongside SNL alum Will Ferrell in the movie Get Hard, slated for release on March 27, 2015. More at The Hollywood Reporter.

Rumors are circulating that the Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes may be joining the latest cast of Dancing with the Stars. The 18th season of the hit ABC show premieres March 18 and the cast is expected to be revealed on March 4. Stay tuned!
