Remembering 9/11

It’s hard to believe it was 12 years ago. It seems as though just yesterday the Twin Towers fell, a hijacked plane crashed into the Pentagon and yet another one crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, perhaps thwarting an attack on the White House. Obama Makes Syria Pitch

On Tuesday, Obama still made a case for striking at the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, invoking the image of hundreds gassed by chemical weapons on Aug. 21 in the outskirts of Damascus and the anguish of a father “clutching his dead children, imploring them to get up and walk.” Obama still laid the blame on Assad, making the case he has been making for two weeks that the regime was responsible for launching sarin gas that killed more than 1,400, including more than 400 children.

Oklahoma School Changes Hair Code

The Oklahoma charter school that disapproved of 7-year-old Tiana Parker’s dreadlocks has changed its hair policy. According to the Associated Press, the school board at the Deborah Brown Community School in Tulsa voted Monday night to revoke the rules that had previously banned dreadlocks, afros and other hairstyles.

Don Lemon Sticks His Foot in His Mouth…Again

The 47-year-old journalist seems to believe that the world is no longer in the hands of leaders like activists, entrepreneurs or preachers. Instead, the new black pioneers are people like Waka Flocka. Interesting. “Why am I so sure about that? I want you to ask yourself the last time you heard a young person walking around singing a church hymn?” the sometimes-controversial CNN anchor said.

Jimmy Kimmel’s Twerking Prank

It turns out that last week’s twerking fail, featuring a girl whose rump shaking landed her in hot fire (literally), was a fake. Receiving more than 9 million hits in just a week, the late night host revealed the full “director’s cut” video on his talk show. “Thank you for helping us deceive the world and hopefully put an end to twerking forever,” Kimmel said to stuntwoman Daphne Avalon, the video’s star.

College Football Scandal

A Yahoo Sports investigation has discovered that five Southeastern Conference football players received extra benefits before completing their collegiate careers; thus, violations NCAA rules. Three of the players–D.J. Fluker, Tyler Bray and Fletcher Cox–are currently on NFL rosters; however, the Miami Dolphins recently released Chad Bumphis and Maurice Couch is starting with the Tennessee Volunteers this year. Zoe Saldana is no longer single. The Star Trek Into Darkness star secretly tied the knot with Marco Perego. Us Weekly reports that a trusted source said the couple married last June in London.

Brother Donates Bone Marrow to Twins

One selfless 15-year-old is all for helping family. Jonathan Buchanan donated bone marrow to both of his twin brothers. Last year, his generosity was able to cure one from sickle cell anemia. This past Wednesday, he helped the other brother out. That one is expected to be cured also.

The Game Pays for Six-Year-Old’s Funeral

After hearing that Tiana Ricks was shot to death in front of her Moreno Valley, California home, the Compton lyricist donated $10,000 to the family to help with funeral arrangements.  “This very sad story hit me in a place nothing ever has,” he said on Instagram, where he posted a picture of the fallen girl.

Kid N’ Play Reunite for Television Show

The popular duo from the 90’s are back! Guest starring on an episode of the new FOX series “Enlisted,” they will entertain the main characters, who are all troops, with a performance at their military base. Watch the show when it premieres Nov. 8.
