George Zimmerman, the man acquitted of killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, is now asking the state of Florida to pay his legal fees. According to Reuters, a report says Zimmerman’s attorney is asking the state to pay up to $300,000 of his legal expenses.
She didn’t sing a note or write a lick of a lyric, but Smokey Robinson contends that Maxine Powell was as essential to Motown Records’ operation as the legendary label’s songwriters, producers and musicians. Powell was in charge of the artists’ personal development. And Robinson paid tribute to Powell on Monday night during an invitation-only event at the former Hitsville, U.S.A., studio in Detroit that now serves as the Motown Historical Museum.

Bryan Davis, a junior, is the latest victim. The incident occurred as he was walking pass a group of peers. Last fall, there were multiple complaints of students of color being targeted by the derogatory action.
A group of 25 Black people were denied service at a South Carolina café after waiting two hours. It started when the manager informed the party that a customer felt threatened by their presence. This statement led one of the group members to pop out their phone and record the conversation. The action led the manager to tell them to leave. They left, however, one of them used Facebook to spread what he considered a racist act.
The tennis star continues to prove why she’s ranked number one. By beating out Francesca Schiavone in the first round of the U.S. Open in just an hour, Serena Williams snagged another victory. She’s well on her way to taking home a fifth championship.
Chadwick Boseman may have found his niche in biopics. First, he hit a home run playing Jackie Robinson earlier this year and now he’s portraying the Godfather of Soul in the yet to be titled film. The actor, along with the rest of the cast and crew, will head to Mississippi this fall to begin filming.
