The first family adding a new member on Monday. First lady Michelle Obama shared a photo on Instagram of Sunny, a Portuguese Water Dog, just like her big brother, Bo. According to the White House, Sunny was born in June 2012 in Michigan and the Obamas picked her name because of her cheerful personality. They also made a donation to the Washington Humane Society in Sunny’s honor.
Prosecutors filed charges against three teenagers Tuesday after police said the boys randomly targeted an Australian baseball player as he jogged and shot him in the back, killing him, to avoid the boredom of an Oklahoma summer day. Christopher Lane, 22, of Melbourne, died Friday along a tree-lined road on Duncan’s well-to-do north side. Two teenagers, 15- and 16-year-olds from a so-called gritty part of the town, were charged with first-degree murder and ordered held without bond.
In an effort to bring an end to Stand Your Ground laws, an online ad depicting the night 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was killed has been released. The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence released the video and used actual audio from the 911 calls from George Zimmerman, who was acquitted of the teen’s murder earlier this summer, as well as that of a witness.
What kind of world do we live in where a racially mixed couple can’t walk about peacefully? Jacob James-Vogel, and his wife, Billie, were leaving a Queens bar on Saturday when they were assaulted and harassed by three men who shouted ethnic slurs at them, according to police. Fortunately, they were not seriously injured and at least one suspect, Nikolaos Katsos, has been arrested.
Actor Stephen Tyrone Williams has been cast as the male lead in Spike Lee’s new movie about humans addicted to blood, according to his Kickstarter page. Williams made his acting debut in Broadway’s “Lucky Guy.” Actress Zarah Abrahams has been cast as the female lead.
It seems like Kimye has been keeping their baby North West under wraps since her birth two months ago. But that may soon change! According to Janiela P.’s Twitter account, the rapper showed the audience a picture of his daughter during his appearance on Kris Jenner’s talk show. The episode is expected to air on Friday and Kanye reportedly spent the entire hour gabbing with his future mother-in-law.
Snoop Dogg’s love for “green” stretches further than you think. The rapper recently launched an Adopt-a-Garden competition as a part of his “Mind Gardens” nonprofit initiative, which supports community gardens that provide healthier fruits and vegetables to underprivileged children and urban communities. In the contest, four local Los Angeles gardens will compete to win $2,000 and a chance to spearhead Snoop’s “Mind Gardens” organization.
Due to her health, the Queen of Soul will not be attending a baseball luncheon where she’d receive an award for embodying the spirit of the civil rights movement. The singer, 71, didn’t specify her illness, but released a statement. “Presently, I am unable to travel as I continue my treatment. I am working towards a full recovery,” she said. Get well soon!
