The government limped into a third day of partial shutdown Thursday with no sign of a way out after a White House conversation between President Barack Obama and top congressional leaders seemed only to harden the stances of Democrats and Republicans. “The president remains hopeful that common sense will prevail,” the White House said in a written statement after the unproductive meeting about the political standoff that has idled 800,000 federal workers and halted an array of services Americans expect from their government.
Gathering in New York to see the unveiling of the“Gladiators in suits” mannequins, Scandal cast members came out to see the window display at Saks Fifth Avenue. The character-inspired mannequins were wearing clothing by designers the show has used, such as Giorgio Armani, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and Carolina Herrera.
The former Boston Red Sox pitcher is planning a self-titled memoir for release next year. Pedro will be co-written by Boston Herald’s Michael Silverman, according to the Associated Press. Publisher Houghton Mifflin says the book will reveal “lively, raw stories” about Martinez’s time in the league.
