Portraits of Black Harvard Faculty Defaced
In response to a nationwide protest held by Black college students attending predominantly white institutions, the portraits of some of Harvard University’s African American faculty members were found defaced early Thursday.
Dean Martha Minow released the following statement after news of black tape being placed on the portraits broke:
As most of you know, this morning we discovered that portraits of some of our African American faculty were defaced with black tape. I am saddened and angered by this act. I am holding a discussion with the HLS community today at noon in WCC 2019 Milstein East. Please join me there with students, faculty and staff.
