Obama Renames Program After Nelson Mandela

President Barack Obama is paying special homage to former South African President Nelson Mandela by renaming an African leadership program in his honor, The White House announced.

The Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, which aims to cultivate rising leaders in Africa, will receive the name change. The fellowship is a part of the Young African Leaders Initiative that launched in 2010.

Hundreds of youngsters have flocked to the United States for the inaugural gathering, where Obama is scheduled to make the announcement on Monday.

The President will also be announcing new public-private partnerships that will create more programs for young African leaders, including four regional leadership centers across Africa and online classes.

This event and several others will lead into the first U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, being held next week in Washington.
