NYPD-Involved Deaths Investigated
If anyone thought the Eric Garner case was an isolated incident, the Daily News has revealed shocking statistics regarding police-involved deaths in New York.
According to a Daily News investigation, in “179 NYPD-involved deaths during the last 15 years, only three cases led to indictments — and just one conviction.”
And the sole officer who was indicted did not serve any jail time.
In cases where race was known, 86 percent were Black or Hispanic.
The investigation began with Amadou Diallo in 1999 and concluded with the most recent shooting of Akai Gurley.
