NFL star Stedman Bailey is in critical but stable condition after being shot Tuesday night in Florida, CBS News reports.
The suspended St. Louis Rams wide receiver, along with his two children and a cousin, had gone to pick up another family member when the shooting happened. Police say Bailey was sitting in a car with four others around 8:45 p.m. outside a home when a vehicle pulled up and started shooting.
Bailey was shot twice in the head. His cousin was shot multiple times while attempting to shield the children from the bullets. They were not hurt.
The victims drove themselves to a hospital. Bailey, a Miami native, underwent surgery at Aventura Hospital. His cousin, who is stable and recovering, was also treated there.
The Rams said in a statement they were “aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident” late Tuesday and that they had spoken with him.
No suspects are in custody and an investigation is ongoing.
