Newspaper Compares Airplanes to Slave Ships

As a pseudo frequent flyer, I can attest that modern day air travel does leave a bit to be desired in terms of amenities and leg space.

Skeptical? Just read Awesomely Luvvie’s hilarious blog post about Spirit Airlines.

I would not, however, compare the tight quarters to slave ships like one Pennsylvania newspaper.

According to Huffington Post, Lancaster New Era recently ran an editorial cartoon that attempted to point out similarities between uncomfortable airplane seats and the atrocious conditions Africans endured as they were transported (against their will, might I add) across the Atlantic Ocean to America.

Uh, no.

The newspaper has since deleted the cartoon, issued a statement and apologized via social media.

And hopefully the editorial staff and cartoonist learned a thing or two about history in the process.
