Nelly Releases Statement on Arrest
Rapper and Real Husbands of Hollywood star Nelly was arrested Saturday after being pulled over by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Nelly, 40, whose real name is Cornell Haynes, is facing charges of felony possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia after officers found crystal meth and a small amount of marijuana on his tour bus.
Here’s a statement from Nelly’s attorney Scott Rosenblum via publicist Juliette Harris:
“Nelly was one of several individuals that was on a tour bus that was stopped and searched while traveling through Tennessee. In fact, there had been 15-20 people that had access to the bus prior to the stop. Allegedly, a small quantity of contraband (MDMA aka Molly or Ecstasy) was discovered during the routine search. We are extremely confident that when the facts come out, Nelly will not be associated with the contraband that was allegedly discovered.”
In a news release, Tennessee Highway Patrol said Nelly was pulled over about 9:20 a.m. because the bus failed to display a U.S. Department of Transportation and International Fuel Tax Association sticker. According to the statement, the troopers smelled marijuana when they reached the bus, prompting a search. That’s when they discovered five rocks that tested positive for meth, a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Troopers say they also found numerous handguns.
Nelly was released from Putnam County Jail on a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 19.
