The National Basketball Players Association has announced its support for Atlanta Hawks guard Thabo Sefolosha if he chooses to pursue civil litigation against the NYPD after he was found not guilty of charges stemming from an incident outside a nightclub earlier this year.
ESPN reports that the association’s Executive Director Michele Roberts made the announcement on Wednesday.
Sefolosha broke his leg in the scuffle with NYPD officers and missed the rest of the Hawks’ playoff run. Last week, he was found innocent of misdemeanor obstructing government administration, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
The verdict set the stage for a potential lawsuit.
