A 14-year-old Texas teen was arrested by police after a homemade clock he wanted to show his school teacher was mistaken for a bomb.
Ahmed Mohamed said he had made the clock at home and brought it to MacArthur High School to show his engineering teacher, BBC reports.
Another teacher saw the project and alerted school authorities who called the police. Ahmed’s father fears the incident happened because his son is Muslim.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations is investigating the incident, which garnered a strong reaction on social media.
Assumptions and fear don’t keep us safe—they hold us back. Ahmed, stay curious and keep building. https://t.co/ywrlHUw3g1

When a 14 year old builds a clock he deserves praise NOT handcuffs http://t.co/Avj5wUkkkI #IStandWithAhmed pic.twitter.com/6DoV5g9SNX
