Mos Def Charged in South Africa

Officials say rapper Mos Def will appear in court for breaking South Africa’s immigration laws.

Home Affairs Director General Mkuseli Apleni said the performer was charged with using a false identity, using a false travel document and helping his family stay in the country illegally.

Mos Def, also known as Yasiin Bey, is currently out on bail. He is set to appear in court on Mar. 8. The rapper’s family must leave the country by Jan. 29. Their visas expired in 2014.

Mos Def was arrested last week after he tried to leave the country with what he described as a “world passport.”
