Miles College Student Found Dead Identified
Authorities have identified a Miles College student who was shot and killed during an isolated incident.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed 21-year-old Keenen Tajae Morris of Mobile was killed in an apartment complex off Llyod Nolan Parkway.
The off-campus apartment complex is owned by the institution. Fairfield police say Morris’ roommate called them around 10:05 p.m. and said he had just been shot.
Fairfield police and Fire Rescue crews responded to the call and found Morris suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
At 10:46 p.m. he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We are saddened by the loss of this young life and we will work vigilantly with the Fairfield Police Department to bring the perpetrators to justice as quickly as possible,” Miles College President Dr. George T. French Jr. said in a news release shared with media at an 11 a.m. press conference.
Investigators suspect two males were involved in the shooting. Several witnesses have been interviewed, and one person is in custody at this time.
A on-campus vigil for Keenen for is scheduled for 7:30 Wednesday.
