Throughout President Obama’s eight years in the White House, his family and the Carters (Jay Z and Beyoncé) had a great partnership when it came to make to making a difference in children’s lives.
Beyonce joined the former First Lady on her ‘Let’s Move!’ campaign back in 2011 with the song, “Move Your Body.” During both of the former President’s campaigns, the Carters held fundraisers bringing in millions of dollars. Let’s also remember Beyonce sang at both of his Inaugurations. During the 2009 Inaugural Ball, Beyonce performed Etta James’ “At Last” during the Obamas’ first dance. At the 2013 Inauguration, Beyonce sung the national anthem.
With all their interactions through the years, it’s no surprised the former First Lady is just as happy as everyone else about Beyonce’s Formation Scholars program. This week, the music superstar announced her new scholarship for young women “who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident.” Four scholarships will be awarded for the 2017-2018 academic school year for young ladies pursuing liberal arts programs at either Berklee College of Music, Parsons School of Design, Howard University and Spelman College.
Michelle Obama praised Beyonce for her latest venture on Twitter, writing, “Always inspired by your powerful contributions @Beyonce. You are a role model for all of us. Thank you for investing in our girls.”
