Maya Angelou Postal Stamp Unveiled Today

Once again, Maya Angelou is a trending topic.

The legendary actress, poet and activist’s legacy was acknowledged at a dedication ceremony held today at the Warner Theater in Washington D.C.

It is no doubt that Angelou will always be remembered. Earlier in the year, a full collection of her poems were made available in a hard copy edition. It was later announced that a postal stamp would be created in Angelou’s honor.

#MayaForever seeks to honor the legend online, whose likeness can now be purchased via U.S. Postage stamp.

According to, “The stamp showcases artist Ross Rossin’s 2013 portrait of Dr. Angelou. The oil-on-canvas painting is part of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery’s collection. In the bottom left corner is the following phrase quoted by Dr. Angelou: “A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.” Above the quotation is her name in black type. The words “Forever” and “USA” are along the right side.”

See the social media posts below of important figures, as well as fans showing their excitement in response to the ceremony this morning.
