Marissa Alexander Speaks Out

Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law didn’t protect Marissa Alexander when she fired a gun shot into her ceiling to warn off her abusive husband. She was slammed with an attempted murder charge and thrown in jail with a 20 year sentence.

Now on house arrest for the next two years as part of a plea deal, Alexander is speaking out on what happened to her and giving her thoughts on the shooting deaths of fellow Floridians Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis.

Said Alexander:

“To be quite frank, it’s like, these were children. Trayvon and Jordan were children. So people’s hearts tend to [feel for that],” she said. “And I would too because I was thinking the whole time, my God, I’ve got a son. I’ve got a 14-year-old son that could be him. So I think that people tend to identify with that.”
