Lower East Side Mother Charged
A lower East Side mom who suffocated her 20-month-old son in the bathroom of a local restaurant, has been charged with second degree murder reports CBS New York.
Police arrested Latisha Fisher, 35, Monday after reports of the mother taking her son, Gavriel Ortiz-Fisher into a Midtown burger joint where she held her hand over the young child’s mouth causing white foam to erupt.
Suspicions grew as customers and employees noticed the line getting longer for the restroom.
Witnesses reported that Fisher prevented restaurant workers from rescuing baby Gavriel. Once access was made possible by force, the child was unconscious.
He was then rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Various accounts from friends, family and citizens of the neighborhood expressed that while Fisher has a volatile past, she showed love to her baby boy.
Fisher’s social media accounts showcase a woman who cared for her family and child.
“It’s hard, it’s really unbelievable. I know my daughter loves her son. I don’t know what happened. It’s just so sad,” Merial Fisher, Gavriel’s maternal grandmother told officials.
It is sad. What causes a mother to break?
