Louisiana Cop, Woman Killed in Marrero Shooting
A Westwego, Louisiana, police officer and a woman are dead after a shooting at the intersection of Ames and Barataria boulevards, WVUE reports.
The two were shot in the same incident just after 6:30 a.m. Friday morning. The officer killed was identified as Micahel Louvier and the woman who died was 32-year-old Simone Veal of the 4000 block of Lillie Street in Marrero.
Louvier was headed home when he saw a vehicular crash and got out to assist people involved in the accident and direct traffic, officials say. While doing so, he was shot in the head. When the woman was shot remains unclear.
Officials launched a search for 31-year-old Sylvester Holt, who is believed to be the man responsible for the deaths. Veal was reportedly Holt’s wife.
Currently, Holt is reportedly threatening to jump off a New Orleans bridge. Law enforcement officials are reportedly negotiating with him. A number of people can be seen on the bridge and police squad car lights are flashing.
