Sad News About Pioneering Mayor

Bergen County, New Jersey’s first female African American mayor, has died.

Lizette Parker, 44, was elected mayor of Teaneck in 2014. She passed away at Holy Name Medical Center earlier this week.

“Mayor Parker was a strong leader, public advocate and a consummate professional, who was greatly respected by her colleagues and the community,” Township Manager William Broughton said in a statement sent to the New York Post.

Parker is survived by her husband, Tony, and their young daughter.
