Jury Enters 2nd Day of Deliberations in Jail Death
A Georgia jury has resumed deliberations in the trial of two former sheriff’s deputies charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of 22-year-old Mathew Ajibade.
Ajibade died while in police custody alone in a cell while strapped to a restraint chair after fighting with deputies at the Chatham County jail on Jan. 2.
The jury spent seven hours deliberating Thursday, but reached no verdict.
Deputy Jason Kenny is accused of shocking Ajibade four times with a Taser while he was restrained. Video of the action was released earlier this week.
Prosecutors say Maxine Evans left Ajibade alone for 90 minutes when she was supposed to ensure he was monitored every 15 minutes.
