Human-Hunting? What is Going on Here?!

The Chicago Police Department has caught public attention with the below photo:

Disturbing is an understatement. Two White cops holding rifles while positioned over a Black man wearing antlers?! Hunting season comes to mind. Oh, and if you missed this subtlety, one of the officers is actually holding the man’s head up.

Of course, the image is one the police department did not want to get out. However, a Cook County Judge refused to remain mum on the racially-charged display. Identified in the photo is former officers Timothy McDermott and Jerome Finning and an unidentified alleged drug suspect.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the photo was taken between 1999 and 2003 in a West Side police station and given to the feds in 2013.

So…it took 10 years for the photos to be turned over and another two before becoming public knowledge. Wow. At least the police board took action and won the vote to fire McDermott, 5-to-4, stating, “appearing to treat an African American man not as a human being, but as a hunted animal is disgraceful and shocks the conscience.” Agreed.

As for the second officer, Finnigan was sentenced to 12 years in prison for leading a crew of rogue cops in robberies, home invasions and other crimes.
