“Gone With the Wind” Prequel Due in October

A "Gone with the Wind" prequel will focus on the life of Scarlett O'Hara's servant, Mammy.

Gone with the Wind is making a comeback.

Simon & Schuster has announced a prequel to the iconic 1936 novel by Margaret Mitchell. Titled Ruth’s Journey, the book will focus on the backstory of Scarlett O’Hara’s servant, Mammy.

Hattie McDaniel made history as the first Black performer to win an Academy Award for her portrayal of Mammy in the 1939 movie version of Gone with the Wind.

According to the New York Times, the prequel, due in October, will document Ruth’s journey from what is now known as Haiti to Savannah, Ga. The book has been authorized by Mitchell’s estate.

We can only hope that it’s better than this ridiculous idea for a Gone with the Wind-themed dance!
