Ginger Howard, 18, has made history as the youngest member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), according to BlackNews.com. She is the fifth African American to join the LGPA Tour.
In her short career, she’s won 78 trophies, including 1st place at 41 out of 66 events. Her rise to success has encountered some personal challenges. Howard’s mother, Gianna Howard was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2011. Fortunately, her mother’s thyroids were detected early and removed successfully.
“I definitely think about being an African-American on the tour, but I don’t want to just be on tour — I want to be in contention,” Howard said in an interview Fox Sports. “I want people to notice me and to be in the spotlight.”
