Freddie Gray Trial: Closing Arguments to Begin

Prosecutors and defense attorneys are expected to deliver closing arguments in the trial of William Porter Monday.

Porter, who is one of six Baltimore police officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray, is facing charges of manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office.

Gray died in April after he suffered a broken neck while being transported by the officers in a police van. Prosecutors partially blame Porter for not buckling Gray into a seat belt and for not calling an ambulance when he indicated he needed medical assistance.

Defense attorneys say Porter did not know Gray was injured and that it was the driver’s responsibility to make sure that prisoners were safely secured during transport.
